3 Simple Ways To Learn Truck Driving Effectively

Bored with an office job and want to travel the country? How about getting paid while you travel? Well, then become a truck driver and there is also good news for you. Trucking companies are constantly hiring and they are looking for good, committed people for the job. If you want to learn to drive a truck well, these 3 effective steps will be of help before you start looking for truck driver recruitment.

  1. You need a license
Well, you at least need a Light Rigid Vehicle (LRV) license to drive commercial trucks. Before that, you must have had a car license for one year without any violations. And, for a Heavy Rigid (HR) license you should have either had an LR license for one year or car license for two years. For Heavy Combination (HC class) license, you must have had an HR license for a year. Safe driving is an important criterion for new truck drivers. You need to have an appetite for mechanical repairs. It is more about learning on the job and enjoying practical work.

  1. Education
There are a number of driving schools where you can learn the necessary skills. There are more than 500 registered heavy truck driving schools across Australia. It is important is to find the right school as per your requirements. So, do your research well. Companies that hire recruits also provide training. You will be paid for your expense and training will be provided by experienced drivers. There are training organizations like TAFE that provide training if the companies cannot afford them. Although basic education may not be mandatory for heavy truck driving, it will give you an edge over other drivers. What we suggest is that you attend a full-time Transport and Logistics (Road Transport) course at one of the TAFE centers. You will be awarded a Certificate III, which proves your skill in moving heavy stock as well as special loads, occupational health and safety, and freight record-keeping.

  1. Choose the industry of your choice
There are various types of trucking jobs as well as many different industries that require trucking. As you take the training, you can decide on the industry you would like to opt for. Different industries have a different business model and require different skills as a driver. You can either become a heavy load driver for the transportation of heavy loads or a light truck driver. Some types of driver are cement mixture drivers (those who drive special concrete mixing truck), heavy haulage drivers (those who drive large trucks or trailers designed for the transportation of heavy loads across long distances), and tow truck drivers (those who tow vehicles that are damaged or broken down).

The decision to drive a truck is not a small decision. The more experience you gain, the more it will help you succeed.
